Elise Schaap Moeder: a Dutch actress of Surinamese descent

Early life and career

Elise Schaap (born 18 January 1982) is a Dutch actress. She is best known for her roles in the films Tiramisu (2012), The Paradise Suite (2015), and The Columnist (2019). Schaap was born in Paramaribo, Suriname, and moved to the Netherlands with her family when she was six years old.

Debut in the theater

She studied at the Maastricht Academy of Dramatic Arts and made her debut in the theater in 2004. She has since appeared in numerous stage productions, including the Dutch National Theater production of Anton Chekhov's The Cherry Orchard in 2016.

Breakthrough in film

Schaap made her film debut in the 2005 film Shouf Shouf Habibi!. She had her breakthrough role in the 2012 film Tiramisu, for which she won the Golden Calf Award for Best Actress. She has since starred in a number of films, including The Paradise Suite (2015), The Columnist (2019), and I Am Zlatan (2021).

Recognition and awards

Schaap has received critical acclaim for her work in film and theater. She has won numerous awards, including the Golden Calf Award for Best Actress, the Rembrandt Award for Best Dutch Actress, and the Dutch Film Critics Award for Best Actress.

In 2020, she was named one of the most promising young actresses in Europe by the European Film Academy.
