Friends, family and former teammates asking for public assistance

O’Brien, 46, suffered three strokes in 2022

A former Gopher football player, Casey O’Brien, needs help from the community. The 46-year-old suffered three strokes in 2022, and his friends, family, and former teammates are asking for public assistance.

O’Brien was a standout defensive lineman for the Gophers from 1995 to 1998. He was a two-time All-Big Ten selection and helped the Gophers win the 1996 Big Ten Championship.

After his playing career, O’Brien worked as a coach and personal trainer. He is now unable to work due to his strokes.

O’Brien’s friends, family, and former teammates have set up a GoFundMe page to help him with medical expenses and other costs.

“Casey is a great guy who has always been there for others,” said his former teammate, Thomas Tapeh. “He’s going through a tough time right now, and we want to do everything we can to help him.”
