North Korea Unveils State-Sanctioned Haircuts for Men and Women

Limited Options for Women

The Telegraph has reported that North Korea, known for its strict control, has implemented state-sanctioned haircuts for both men and women. Women are allowed to choose from a mere 14 styles, while men have 10 options.

A Guide to the Approved Styles

The North Korean government has released a guide to the approved hairstyles, with 28 options in total. Eighteen of these styles are intended for women, while the remaining ten are for men.

Women's Hairstyle Restrictions

North Korea's strict hairstyle guidelines for women have been the subject of much discussion. Women are prohibited from having long hair or perms, which are considered to be too Western and inappropriate.

Instead, they must choose from the approved styles, which include variations of short bobs, pixie cuts, and buns. These styles are designed to convey a sense of modesty and uniformity.

Men's Hairstyle Options

Men in North Korea have slightly more options to choose from, with ten approved hairstyles. These include short fades, buzz cuts, and side-parted styles.

However, like women, men are not allowed to have long hair or Western-influenced hairstyles.

Why State-Sanctioned Hairstyles?

The North Korean government's decision to impose state-sanctioned hairstyles is seen as an attempt to maintain social control and promote conformity. It also reflects the country's isolation from the rest of the world, where fashion trends and personal expression are often not tolerated.
